Sonia became a registered valuer in 1983 and has had 25 years' experience in the property field.  She is an Associate of the New Zealand Institute of Vauers and a Senior Member of the Property Institute of New Zealand.

Sonia served a total of 12 years with the (then) Government Valuation Department in Christchurch. Following on from this, she was a top performer in selling residential properties for a Christchurch real estate company for a period of three years.  Following her move to Auckland in 1994, Sonia spent a total of six years in private valuation practice, including five years with Somervilles. Sonia then spent the next five years working as a sales and contract negotiator for an Auckland house building company and returned to Somervilles in August 2008.

Sonia is a keen tramper and is awaiting the release of her first children's novel.
