Bruce has had 40 years’ experience in property valuation and consultancy. He is a senior member of the Property Institute of New Zealand and an Associate of both the New Zealand Institute of Valuers and the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.
Bruce has had substantial experience in valuation of commercial and industrial property, as well as consulting work including acquisition and disposal of property holdings.
His career started with Barfoot & Thompson in 1966 where he worked as an Assistant Valuer. He subsequently went on to work in Town Planning and Project Consultancy with JASMaD Planners and Environmental Research Limited.
In the early to mid 1970s he was responsible for the investigation and feasibility analysis of sub-divisional land prior to purchase for Broadlands Properties Limited. Following on from this, Bruce became Senior Executive of the Auckland office of Livingstone & Jones Lang Wootton where he was principally involved with the management, valuation and development of commercial buildings. This work included site acquisition and full project coordination. Bruce later completed a three year period with the Crown Lands Office of the Hong Kong Government. His work here included regranting expired Crown leases in multiple ownership and letting land by tender.
Upon his return to Auckland, Bruce joined the valuation practice of Jensen Davies & Eyles of Remuera in 1980 and subsequently became a Director of Jensen Davies.
Bruce founded Somervilles Valuers in 1991 and over the past 17 years has carried out a wide range of valuation work throughout Auckland. Bruce is experienced on advising clients regarding the management and development, as well as disposal and acquisition, of their property holdings. Bruce also has experience appearing as an expert witness and acting as an arbitrator in valuation disputes.
